December 2019 ICDP Research Programme 2020-2021

PREPARING TO ENTER UNCHARTED TERRITORY

During this webinar we outlined our proposed plans for next year’s programme, focusing on optimisation, efficiency, and innovation. We discussed the broad topics and focus areas of research, as well as specific questions that we will attempt to answer through the research programme.

Since the webinar we have also produced a programme outline, available HERE

The automotive industry is facing several key challenges over the next 2-3 years; market downturns, global protectionism, environmental concerns, network viability, new entrants, product technology changes, digitalisation, and regulatory uncertainty, to name just a few. We recognise the need to ensure our research is relevant to these near-term issues in order for our programme to remain relevant to you.

Our 2020-2021 research programme will therefore focus on how the sector needs to address these challenges by building resilience through optimisation, efficiency, and innovation. In the webinar we looked at key areas such as:

  • Customers and new realities around mobility

  • Electrification and the impact this will have across the value chain

  • The future of network structures and dealer roles, and how to choose and train the right people with the right skills

  • How data and technology are both enablers and barriers to change

  • How new and used car supply chain pressures and processes are evolving

  • The economics of aftersales and how these will evolve for repair and maintenance and crash repair

  • The influence and role of insurers in the crash repair sector

  • Evolution in the parts distribution sectors
