In this webinar, we gave an update on the evolving regulatory picture around access to in-vehicle data and repair information that will affect both the OEM-franchised and independent sides of the aftermarket.  The EU has recently completed the final steps in signing off its Data Act, a wide-ranging piece of legislation that enshrines the user’s right to access and manage data collected by all sorts of ‘connected’ products and services; we looked at the main ingredients and implications of this for the automotive sector.  The same framework has also been expected to generate a companion sector-specific proposal focusing on the long-debated topic of access to in-vehicle data and resources – this proposal appears to be running some way behind schedule, but if it appears in time for the webinar, we will report on it.  But meanwhile, there have also been two recent cases in the European Court of Justice that specifically cover aspects of how the independent aftermarket should access vehicle-related data and information, and we will take a look at these too.
