 company Description

Distribution is vital to the car industry, but the fundamentals have not developed to the same extent as the upstream areas of product development and manufacturing.  The business model is recognisably the same as that which existed one or two decades ago, and the objective of ICDP from its foundation has been to act as catalyst for change, stimulating interest in alternative approaches and sharing insights into alternative approaches. This encompasses how manufacturers plan the production of new cars, the channels through which they come to market, how that is financed, how and where service and repair is provided, and how they are then re-marketed as used cars. The value chain encompasses long-established players and new entrants, manufacturers, dealers, distributors, suppliers and service providers, and physical as well as digital channels.  Car purchase and operation is one of the largest elements of consumer spending in developed economies - it is also one with a high emotional content. In addition the distribution sector is a major employer.

Car distribution has been the focus of attention from consumer and regulatory bodies, questioning whether the current system provides the greatest choice and value. ICDP has been working since 1994 to provide a factual analytical base for understanding the current system and for seeking innovations. It has been a consistent source of research and ideas, and has now expanded its services to include consulting and data services.

ICDP is supported by a wide range of organisations - including car dealers, manufacturers, component suppliers and service providers through annual fees and specific consulting engagements.  Opportunities exist for progression within ICDP, or to move onto middle and senior positions in the automotive industry.  The business is wholly owned by the employees, and all employees have the opportunity to acquire shares through a share option scheme.
