John Whiteman
Senior Advisor
John was Managing Director of ICDP from 1999 until stepping down in March
2010: he is now a senior advisor of the programme. He takes a particular
interest in Block Exemption issues,
dealer
groups,
and
franchise
structure
and development
issues.
Prior to joining ICDP, he was Group Strategic Development Director at Inchcape
plc, where he was responsible for driving the group's strategy at Board level,
and for guiding divisional strategies and business development across 33 countries.
He was Inchcape's director on the Board of Toyota GB, and was involved in many
automotive related projects. Among his earlier Inchcape roles, he was Planning
and Development Director of Mann Egerton, working with 50 retail businesses
in three countries and an extensive leasing operation.
John is an Economist by discipline, with a BA from Exeter and an MPhil from
Oxford University.
John also undertakes a wide range of consultancy
assignments in the car distribution arena, generally on behalf of ICDP members
and in conjunction with other ICDP researchers. He also acts as an independent
expert on franchising disputes.
He is married, with three daughters, and lives in Tring, Hertfordshire.
